kuieralot® Quick Lit Submission Terms and Conditions
Last updated: 13 August 2026
These kuieralot® Quick Lit Submission Terms and Conditions (“Submission Terms”) apply to every written work, author biography, photograph and other material submitted to kuieralot® Quick Lit through kuieralot.com/quick-lit-submission or another submission method approved by us.
kuieralot® Quick Lit is operated by KUIERALOT (PTY) LTD, trading as kuieralot® (“kuieralot”, “we”, “us” or “our”), a company registered in South Africa.
By submitting material, you confirm that you have read, understood and accepted these Submission Terms.
1. About kuieralot® Quick Lit
kuieralot® Quick Lit is a curated creative platform that considers original Afrikaans and English writing for possible publication on the kuieralot® Website and related promotional channels.
We may consider short stories, poems, song lyrics, letters, humour, book introductions, personal essays, reflections, cultural pieces, creative fiction and other categories shown on the submission form.
Submission does not guarantee review within a particular period, editorial feedback, selection, publication, promotion, payment or any other benefit.
2. Who may submit
You must be at least 18 years old and legally capable of agreeing to these Submission Terms.
If you are under 18, a parent or legal guardian must submit or expressly approve the submission, provide their contact details and accept these Submission Terms on your behalf.
If you submit for another writer, co-author, estate, organisation or rights holder, you confirm that you have written authority to act for and bind every relevant rights holder.
3. Submission requirements
Your submission must:
- be your original work or material you are fully authorised to submit;
- be submitted in Afrikaans or English;
- fit a category accepted on the submission page;
- comply with the maximum word count and file requirements displayed when you submit;
- include an accurate title, full name, email address and short author biography;
- use a Word document, accessible Google Drive link or pasted text, as permitted by the form;
- be complete and reasonably proofread;
- identify all co-authors and relevant rights holders; and
- comply with these Submission Terms and applicable law.
An author photograph is optional. If supplied, it must be a clear image that you have permission to submit and publish.
Do not upload a password-protected, malicious, corrupted or unsafe file. A shared-drive link must remain accessible for a reasonable review period and must not give us access to unrelated private files.
4. Originality and your warranties
You warrant that:
- you created the submitted work or control all rights required for the submission and licence below;
- the work is not plagiarised, pirated or copied without permission;
- the submission does not infringe copyright, moral rights, trade marks, privacy, publicity, confidentiality, contractual or other rights;
- every quotation, lyric, image, translation, adaptation or third-party extract is lawfully used and appropriately attributed;
- every factual statement presented as fact has been checked with reasonable care;
- you have permission to identify or depict private individuals where consent is legally or ethically required;
- the submission is not subject to an agreement or restriction that prevents our permitted use; and
- the information you provide about yourself and the work is accurate.
Submitting someone else’s work under your name, including an unauthorised translation or adaptation, is prohibited.
5. Simultaneous submissions and prior publication
Unless a submission call expressly states otherwise, previously published and simultaneous submissions are permitted if you retain the necessary rights.
You must disclose previous publication and promptly tell us if another publication accepts the work or if an exclusivity obligation arises before we publish it.
We may decline a work because it is already widely available or because another agreement prevents meaningful publication by Quick Lit.
6. Artificial intelligence and assisted writing
kuieralot® Quick Lit is intended to showcase authentic contributor voices. You must disclose in the submission notes any material use of generative artificial intelligence in creating, rewriting or translating the work.
Ordinary spelling, grammar, accessibility and formatting tools need not be disclosed. You remain fully responsible for originality, accuracy, rights clearance and every part of the submitted work, regardless of any tool used.
We may reject materially AI-generated work, undisclosed AI use or any work whose authorship or rights cannot be established to our reasonable satisfaction.
7. Prohibited content
You may not submit material that:
- contains plagiarism or infringes another person’s rights;
- is illegal, fraudulent, defamatory or unlawfully threatening;
- contains hate speech or promotes unlawful discrimination or violence;
- contains explicit adult sexual content;
- sexually exploits or endangers a child or vulnerable person;
- reveals confidential, private or identifying information without lawful justification;
- encourages self-harm, criminal conduct or dangerous behaviour in an irresponsible manner;
- contains malicious links, code, advertising, spam or undisclosed paid promotion; or
- creates an unreasonable legal, safety or reputational risk.
Creative treatment of difficult topics is not automatically prohibited. We may consider context, literary purpose, audience, warnings and the manner of presentation.
8. Selection and editorial discretion
Our editorial team may accept, decline, hold, schedule or withdraw a submission in its discretion. We are not obliged to provide reasons, individual feedback or a publication date.
Selection may depend on quality, originality, relevance, available space, editorial balance, legal risk, suitability for the audience and compliance with these Submission Terms.
If selected, we will ordinarily notify you using the email address supplied. A selection notice may include further editorial questions or publication details.
9. Editing and approval
You authorise us to make light edits for spelling, grammar, punctuation, house style, accessibility, formatting, headings, excerpts and layout while preserving the substance and voice of the work.
We will seek your approval before making a material edit that changes meaning, argument, plot, characterisation or creative intent, unless an urgent correction is reasonably necessary to address a legal, safety or factual problem after publication.
We may add an editorial introduction, category, content note, featured image, metadata, links or promotional excerpt, provided it does not falsely attribute a view to you.
You must respond to reasonable editorial queries within the period stated. Failure to respond may delay or prevent publication.
10. Ownership
You retain copyright in your original written work. These Submission Terms do not transfer ownership of your copyright to KUIERALOT (PTY) LTD.
You also retain any moral rights provided by applicable law, subject to the editing and formatting permissions expressly granted in these Submission Terms.
11. Licence granted to kuieralot®
By submitting material, you grant KUIERALOT (PTY) LTD a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to:
- receive, store, copy and review the submission;
- edit it as permitted by these Submission Terms;
- publish, display and make the selected work available on kuieralot.com;
- format it for desktop, mobile, email, accessibility and archival use;
- use your name, approved biography and submitted author photograph with the work;
- use the title and reasonable excerpts to promote the work and kuieralot® Quick Lit through kuieralot® newsletters and social-media channels; and
- retain reasonable editorial, legal and backup copies.
The licence is non-exclusive, so you may use and publish the work elsewhere, subject to any separate agreement you make with another party.
We may not sell, license to an unrelated publisher, adapt into another commercial work, or use the complete work in paid merchandise or a paid anthology without a separate written agreement with you.
12. Attribution and pen names
Selected work will ordinarily be credited using your submitted name. You may request an approved pen name in the submission notes, but must still provide your accurate legal identity privately where reasonably required.
We may decline anonymous publication where identity is necessary for rights verification, safety, transparency or legal compliance.
13. Author biography and photograph
You grant us permission to edit an author biography lightly for length, grammar, formatting and relevance and to publish it with the selected work.
If you provide a photograph, you confirm that you own it or have the photographer’s and depicted person’s permission for the uses described here. Do not submit a photograph of another person without permission.
14. No payment unless separately agreed
kuieralot® Quick Lit submissions and publication are unpaid unless we expressly agree otherwise with you in writing before publication. Submission does not create employment, freelance, agency, partnership or a promise of future paid work.
You are not charged a submission or publication fee under these Submission Terms.
15. Withdrawal before publication
You may withdraw a submission before publication by emailing kuier@kuieralot.com with your name and the title of the work.
We will make reasonable efforts to stop publication if the withdrawal reaches us before the work is scheduled or technically prepared, but you should contact us as early as possible.
16. Removal after publication
You may request removal of a published work by email. We will consider the request reasonably and ordinarily remove the main Website publication within a reasonable period, subject to legal, archival, technical and public-interest considerations.
Removal does not require us to recall newsletters, social posts, search caches, screenshots, lawful quotations or material already shared by third parties. We may retain private records and backups needed for compliance, disputes and system recovery.
We may correct, restrict or remove published material at any time for legal, safety, editorial, technical or platform-integrity reasons.
17. Embargoes and publication timing
Do not submit embargoed or time-sensitive material unless we have agreed to the embargo in writing. We do not guarantee a particular publication date, duration, position, audience or level of promotion.
18. Privacy and communications
We process submission and contributor information as described in our Privacy Policy and in accordance with applicable South African law, including the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013.
We may use your contact details to acknowledge the submission, review it, ask editorial questions, notify you of the outcome, administer publication, handle rights issues and maintain submission records.
A phone number supplied through the form is for submission administration and will not be published unless you expressly request and authorise publication.
19. Reporting an infringement or concern
If you believe a kuieralot® Quick Lit work infringes your rights, contains unlawful material or creates a serious safety concern, email kuier@kuieralot.com with the page URL, a description of the concern, your contact details and supporting evidence.
We may temporarily restrict access while investigating and may share relevant information where reasonably necessary to obtain legal advice, respond to the contributor, protect rights or comply with law.
20. Responsibility and indemnity
You remain responsible for your submission and the warranties you give in these Submission Terms.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, you indemnify KUIERALOT (PTY) LTD against a third-party claim and reasonable legal cost arising from your plagiarism, infringement, unlawful material, material misrepresentation or breach of these Submission Terms.
This does not require you to indemnify us for our own prohibited, unlawful or grossly negligent conduct and does not remove a right that cannot lawfully be excluded.
21. Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, KUIERALOT (PTY) LTD is not liable for selection decisions, non-publication, publication delay, loss of an opportunity, third-party copying or misuse after lawful online publication, or indirect loss that was not reasonably foreseeable.
We do not exclude or limit liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including liability arising from our fraud, wilful misconduct or gross negligence.
Keep your own copy of every submission. We are not an archive or backup service.
22. Changes to these Submission Terms
We may update these Submission Terms prospectively. The version accepted when you submit applies to that submission unless you and we agree otherwise or a change is required by law.
23. Governing law and contact
These Submission Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. South African courts have jurisdiction, subject to any mandatory right to approach another competent body.
